A Father’s Fugue

Father’s Day has layers
As many things now do
A nod to one who made me
In love and passion’s mood

I grew into a father
Let by my design
Although I didn’t know it
There were treasures yet to find

Children came and I recalled
How father led our tribe
A man of honor, wit and cheer
He taught us the same vibe

I vowed to be a good one
To lead my people too
With love and hugs and wisdom
A balance through and through

But something kept on nagging
And looking in the glass
Reflections kept on saying
On this face I’ll pass

I found myself in question
Not feeling right at all
A change in me was needed
An answer to the call
